Wherein the Historianess Makes a To-Do List
This summer, the Historianess must:
- complete research on her Dictionary of Virginia Biography entry "Emanuel Driggus"
- write her DVB entry "Emanuel Driggus"
- complete revisions on her article "The Child Should be Made a Christian": Baptism, Race, and Identity in the Early Chesapeake"
- finish the research for her conference paper "A Puritan Virginia? Rethinking English Identities in the Early Chesapeake, 1607-1644"
- write said conference paper
- write a book proposal and make some progress on getting a contract for the Amazing Mr. Book (otherwise known as From Potential Christians to Hereditary Heathens: Religion and Race in Early America, 1550-1750)
- finish a book review
- finish her syllabus for HIST 465 "From Roanoke to Jamestown"
- finish her syllabus for HIST 117 "America to 1848"
- catch up on her sleep

For your information, the "write syllabus for HIST 117" item on my to-do list is there because it needs to be done--i.e., it hasn't been done yet. So, I don't know what I am assigning yet.
If you are a reader of this blog, you will know that I post my syllabi *when they are done.* You'll get your recs then, along with everyone else who reads this blog.
I'm a history professor and I've been reading your blog for almost 2 years. In fact I just assigned a paper that used some blog comment that included an essay by you. So I respect your work and the "blogosphere" even if I choose not to have one. I do not need a "personal recommendation service," my book orders for fall were due in the spring. I wasn't sure if you had overlooked my post or had forgotten to post or whatever. I was just curious about your thoughts on that class even if you had not settled on reading assignments. Isn't that the point of a blog? To interact and discuss? If I want your syllabi I can go to the Rice homepage. Your response was rude and condescending. My students found you rude and sarcastic too, and they're not even at an Ivy League school! Imagine that!!!
Well, No Blog, if you don't wish me to respond sarcastically, I recommend that you not comment sarcastically. "Thanks for the book recommendations" was a rude comment--regardless of whether or not I had forgotten, overlooked your request, or simply hadn't gotten to it yet.
