Gee, no one seems to be on the web these days! Mammamoo
What books are you using for the "US to 1848" course? Thanks.
Hi Rebecca:
I just learned from this entry about your new research project, From Potential Christians to Hereditary Heathens -- I've been researching quite a bit in religion and race in this earlier era, and hope we can talk sometime (I'm more of a novice in colonial-era history) -- I just started a blog at http://usreligion.blogspot.com, and can be reached at pharvey AT mail dot uccs dot edu.
I'm all about catching up on my sleep. Not that it's working.
The CrankyProfessor
I hear you! It's after 11 here and yet I am still awake! Visions of finished articles, dancing in my wee little head...
Somehow summer just seems to disappear in a flurry of work...
"catch up on her sleep"
The rest of your list seems to indicate that the above won't happen anytime soon.
Thanks for the book recommendations.
No blog: This blog is *not* your personal recommendation service.
For your information, the "write syllabus for HIST 117" item on my to-do list is there because it needs to be done--i.e., it hasn't been done yet. So, I don't know what I am assigning yet.
If you are a reader of this blog, you will know that I post my syllabi *when they are done.* You'll get your recs then, along with everyone else who reads this blog.
I'm a history professor and I've been reading your blog for almost 2 years. In fact I just assigned a paper that used some blog comment that included an essay by you. So I respect your work and the "blogosphere" even if I choose not to have one. I do not need a "personal recommendation service," my book orders for fall were due in the spring. I wasn't sure if you had overlooked my post or had forgotten to post or whatever. I was just curious about your thoughts on that class even if you had not settled on reading assignments. Isn't that the point of a blog? To interact and discuss? If I want your syllabi I can go to the Rice homepage. Your response was rude and condescending. My students found you rude and sarcastic too, and they're not even at an Ivy League school! Imagine that!!!
Well, No Blog, if you don't wish me to respond sarcastically, I recommend that you not comment sarcastically. "Thanks for the book recommendations" was a rude comment--regardless of whether or not I had forgotten, overlooked your request, or simply hadn't gotten to it yet.
